Around 1830 a man named George Wilson robbed a mail coach in Pennsylvania. He was caught and sentenced to be hanged for his crimes. However, the president gave him a pardon so he wouldn't hang but would serve a prison sentence. Despite this, he was still hanged; why?, you ask, - because he refused to accept the pardon. Upon this refusal the supreme court ruled that a pardon was worthless unless it was accepted. As George Wilson would not accept the pardon the sentence was duly carried out.
You may ask what this has to do with a blog about Christian truth and that is a fair question. The answer is simple - there are parallels here between the case of George Wilson and the way people reject the Gospel.
The Bible (the infallible word of God) teaches that ..."God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life" - John 3 v 16. God has offered us a pardon for our sins and the assurance of eternal life in Heaven if we accept that pardon. However, sad to say, most people are like George Wilson. Just as he refused to accept a pardon that would have saved him from the gallows so most people refuse to accept God's pardon.
Why is this? The answer is found in verse 19 of the same chapter "....men loved darkness rather than light because their deeds were evil". People reject the pardon because it would mean repentance on their part, and they don't want to get rid of their sins, they don't want to live in the light of God's word and His teachings.
What should be our response to all this? Answer - to pray for them. We need not only to explain the Gospel and seek to answer their questions honestly but also to pray that God would open their eyes and draw them. John 6 v 44 makes it clear that they will not "come" to Jesus unless they are drawn.
In the meantime the Gospel truth is being spread, and souls are being saved. The Gospel will triumph in the end and eternity will vindicate the servants of God who so diligently make that pardon available to multitudes who are as sheep without a shepherd.

What's it all about?
It's that time of the year again when people go mad with their credit cards, get drunk at office parties and make pigs of themselves with food. In other words, the time of the year when covetousness, drunkeness and gluttony are at their peak. Clearly, most people completely miss the real meaning of Christmas.
So what is it really all about? Although Jesus wasn't born on Dec 25th, and although He was born about 6 bc and not 0 bc we are right to remember His birth. However, there are three questions that we should ask ourselves -
1. Who was Jesus?
2. Why was He born?
3. What does it have to do with me?
1. Who was Jesus? The Bible says, Luke 1 v 35, that the angel told Mary that the one to be born would be called "The Son of God". To put it another way - our God contracted to a span, incomprehensibly made man".
2. Why was He born. In Matthew 1 v 21 we have the answer - "....you shall call His name Jesus because He will save His people from their sins". He was born to die.....as a sacrifice for the sins of the world, then rise again to be our saviour.
3. What does it have to do with me? We all need to turn from our sins and accept Jesus as our Lord and Saviour. the Bible says "To all who received Him, He gave the right to become the children of God". John 1 v 12. ".....elect according to the foreknowledge of God"
One of the charges levelled against the infallible word of God (The Bible) by opponents of the Gospel is that it is "full of contradictions". Most people who make this statement have never even read it! I remember speaking to a man in Ramsgate High St. who boasted that the Bible has contradictions and when I asked him to name one he was stumped!
However, there are people who have read the Bible and, by lining up different passages side by side, claim that they are contrary to one another. Indeed, some have even written whole books detailing these "contradictions" - and, no doubt, have made themselves a lot of money in the process!
A simple reading of these "contradictory passages" in context, and the sensible comparing of scripture with scripture is all that is needed to adequately refute unbelievers and one example of this is as follows:
In 1st Timothy 2 v 4 we read that God "desires all people to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth". However, in Matthew 22 v 14 we read that "many are called, but few are chosen". At first glance this appears to be a contradiction; how can God wish all people to be saved from their sins and then say also that He chooses people? That is a fair question and the answer is simple -in 1st Peter 1 v 2 we read that Christians are "elect according to the foreknowledge of God". God does wish for all to be saved but, in His foreknowledge, He knows who will be - and these are elected to eternal life. An excellent illustration of foreknowledge comes from Norman Geisler's book "Chosen but free" and I outline it below:
Jim wishes to get married and he knows 2 ladies (Joan and Betty) who would make him an excellent wife. However, he knows that Betty will refuse him but Joan will accept him. Consequently. in accordance with that foreknowledge he chooses Joan. Note that his choice is "in accordance" with foreknowledge not "based upon" foreknowledge. His choice is based upon his desire to marry and to choose Joan. He could have desired not to marry, and he didn't have to choose Joan.
Similarly, God did not have to make a plan of Salvation available to anyone, but He chose to. God does not have to save the soul of anyone but he chooses to. However, His choice of who to save is "according to foreknowledge".
Moreover, one has to bear in mind that there is the perfect will of God and His permissive will. His perfect will is to save the soul of everyone but He permits people to go their own sinful way.
As we can see from the example above, if people will simply read Bible passages in context and make sensible comparisons of scripture with scripture they will see that the Bible has NO contradictions but it is absolutely trustworthy.

"......ordained of God"
After many months of campaigning the US election has finally been decided - the yanks having elected Obama for another term of office. I've observed that many people were getting really worked up and excited over this election, but there was no need to take it so seriously for one simple reason - the result had already been ordained by God.
In Romans 13 v 1 we read that "the powers that be are ordained of God". In simple english that means that ruling authorities have been appointed by Him. That doesn't mean that any bad deeds they do have God's blessing but it does mean that we have to accept that God put them in power.
When we believe that a sovereign God ordains those who are in power it is a release from having to worry who will win the election. When we trust God, who is in control, to do His will then we can have perfect peace that He knows what He is doing.
Of course, the inevitable question arises - what about the evil people in office, the likes of Hitler, Stalin, Gadaffi, Mugabe et al? It is a difficult one to answer but we have to remember that all of us will give account to God, and rulers more than most because they literally have the power of life or death in their hands.
As Christians our primary responsiblity is to spread the Gospel and then believe that God will draw His elect as it pleases Him. As long as we have the freedom to do this then it should not matter to us who is in power. If we are denied the freedom to preach the Gospel we must do so anyway and accept the consequences. The time may well come in England when I am forbidden by law to give out tracts on the street - I hope that if that happens I will have the courage to "obey God rather than men" and trust Him to look after me.
In the meantime let us be sure that God is on the throne - He appoints rulers and He ordains that His elect will be converted as the Gospel is preached. As Jesus said "All that the Father gives me will come to me" - John 6 v 37

In defence of Stephen Green
When true Christians seek to stand up for the Word of God they will be vilified by others. This is predicted by Jesus in John's Gospel when He states that His followers will be hated by the world (see John 15 v 18-20)
Indeed, over the last 2 millenia Christians have been the most persecuted people on Earth.
Moreover, when true Christians are prepared to stand against the evils of the day and preach the Bible as it stands then, often, they may well be criticised by other "Christians". These critics are either not truly saved, or they may well be saved but very weak, seeking the popularity of the world rather than the blessing of God.
Those who are not afraid of the opposition that comes through preaching truth are true warriors of the cross; they are not "chocolate soldiers" who melt whenever the opportunity comes to stand up for Jesus. Such a warrior is Stephen Green of Christian Voice. Mr Green has consistently spoken the truth over the years and has often been quoted in the news media. He appeared on "Question Time" some years ago and bore a good testimony to the truths of God's infallible word.
However, this has attracted the inevitable opposition, ridicule and character assassination. He was once falsely accused, in a national newspaper article, of being a wife-beater and tyrant (in fact it was he that needed police protection, not the other way round). Needless to say, the paper in question didn't give him the right of reply as it was written by a journalist well known for anti-Christian views.
For my part, I praise God for brother Stephen Green, and many others not so well known, who have diligently sought to declare the precious truths of God in an age of increasing darkness and apostasy. Indeed, Mr Green's reward will be great in Heaven as Jesus promised - "Blessed are ye when men shall revile you, and persecute you, and shall say all manner of evil against you falsely, for my sake. rejoice and be exceeding glad: for great is your reward in Heaven: for so persecuted they the prophets which were before you" Matthew 5 v 11-12.

A tale of two brothers
You have heard of the Dickens novel a "Tale of 2 cities" but I would like to outline for your below a "Tale of 2 Brothers". Moreover, unlike Dickens' novel, this is true.
In San Fransisco in the early 1900s lived two Chinese brothers. The eldest one was a law-abiding citizen who did not get himself into trouble. However, the youngest was a wild boy who was frequently getting into fights and causing trouble.
One day he had an argument with a man over a card game and stabbed him to death. After this he ran home and, taking off his blood-stained shirt, made off into the darkness. The elder brother arrived home and, realising what had happened, took off his own shirt and put on the blood-stained one. He then gave himself up to the Police. The elder brother was convicted of murder and executed in the electric chair.
Just after this the younger brother went to the Police and told them they had made a mistake but they dismissed him by stating that the price for the crime had been paid.
This is an excellent illustration of what Jesus has done for us - we are in trouble with God because of our sins. Moreover, we cannot get out of this mess by our own efforts. However, God did not leave us in our sin; He sent Jesus to pay the price and then raised Him again the third day to be our Saviour. This who turn from their sins and receive Him are saved, those who don't are lost.
This is the simple Gospel message that has been taught since the 1st century AD. It has never changed and it is responsible for millions being saved from the wrath to come and being guaranteed eternal life.

Who are the real bigots?
In recent years it has become fashionable to be abusive towards those who do not subscribe to political correctness. Indeed, those who keep saying we must be tolerant of other people's lifestyles are very intolerant towards those who disagree. A couple of examples will suffice:
A Christian couple who do not wish to allow homosexuals under their roof have been bombarded with hate mail and abusive texts/e-mails. The Police made a half-hearted attempt to investigate but (surprise, surprise) nothing came of this.
The Deputy Prime Minister, Nick Clegg, referred to those who support marriage as "bigots"; he quickly backtracked when he realised the trouble he made for himself. However, Clegg showed himself in his true colours as an extremely nasty individual who cares nothing for anyone who disagrees with him, (which is hardly surprising as he is an atheist).
The other day a meeting took place in Birmingham held by those who support marriage and addressed by, inter alia, a former Archbishop of Canterbury. Outside were the usual rent-a-mob crowd shouting abuse.
No doubt one could give many other examples but the above clearly show that godless men and women are so unreasonable that they cannot give a fair hearing to anyone who expresses a Christian belief. Should we be surprised at this? In a word - no. The Bible records how Paul asked the Christian at Thessalonika to pray that he would be delivered from "unreasonable and wicked men" (2 Thess 3 v 1). Those who have not been saved from their sins are under the control of the devil - consequently there is no telling the depths of wickedness to which they may sink.
Instead of responding to these people by being abusive in return we should pray for them, that God would be pleased to "grant them repentance unto life" and bring them into the full light and liberty of the Gospel. Then, and only then, will they behave with the right attitude to others.
Let us remember, too, that when we are persecuted for righteousness sake our reward is great in Heaven - Matthew 5 v 10-12.

Message to the plods - now leave us alone!
In recent years the police have been using (or should I say mis-using) section 5 of the 1986 Public Order Act in a vain attempt to silence Christians. The following examples prove this to be the case:
In 2010 a Cumbrian street evangelist was nicked after telling a PCSO that homosexuality was a sin. He was initially charged but the case was dropped. The evangelist was subsequently awarded compensation for wrongful arrest.
Earlier this year a somerset street evangelist went on trial after telling two homosexuals that what they were doing was sinful - he was cleared by a court.
Also in 2010 a Christian couple from merseyside were nicked and charged after a debate with a Muslim lady when she went whining to the coppers that she had been offended. The case went to court but the judge threw it out and offered implied criticism of the police for their actions.
In 2011 a Christian cafe owner in Blackpool was visited by the plods and told that the advertising screen which displayed the New Testament contravened the Public Order Act, as it was allegedly homophobic. Following negative publicity in the national press they came to their senses and apologised to the Christian.
In the latest display of Police harassment of Christians they nicked two peaceful pro-life protesters in Brighton and put them on trial, again for Public Order "offences", even though they admitted the protest was peaceful. The two Christians (Andy Stephenson and Kathryn Sloane) were yesterday cleared by a judge.
In each of these cases the police have acted with a blatant abuse of their powers and bias against Christians. It is obvious that they are biased in favour of homosexuals, Muslims and abortionist murderers, and woe betide any Christian who dares to speak the truth about these people. If it wasn't for the independence of the courts then all of these Christians would be facing a life with a criminal record.
Of course, we should recognise the truth of God's infallible word when it teaches that "men loved darkness rather than light because their deeds were evil" (John 3 v 19) and for this reason people lose all their sense of reason when facing a challenge to their sinful lifestyles. However, would it be too much to ask that the police finally get the message - we have free speech in this country and that right extends to Christians as well as everybody else.

Clegg's got egg (on his face)
I have tried to leave the subject of homosexuality alone in recent articles on my blog; however, the latest faux pas by supporters of homo marriage makes it essential that I return to the subject.
The so-called Deputy Prime Minister, Clegg, gave a speech to "celebrity" homosexuals last night in support of gay marriage. There is nothing unusual about that, this man has made no secret of his support for these people. However, the original draft speech had him attacking supporters of Biblical marriage as "bigots". When he realised the furore this caused he quickly backtracked. Now he is in the position of having upset both sides - he upset Christians by calling us bigots, and he upset the perverts by withdrawing the "bigot" remark. Truly this man has egg on his face - big time.
What does this sorry episode tell us about Clegg, in particular, and his ilk in general. It tells us several things:
Firstly, those who support homo marriage are deeply spiteful. They pay lip service to tolerance but it is tolerance on their terms. In other words, their message states that you can believe and say what you like as long as it agrees with them.
Secondly, it confirms the reliability of the Bible in it's teachings. In John 3 v 19 we read that people "loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil". Those involved in homosexuality, and their supporters, are in darkness. Not only are they content to wallow in their sin but they lash out at Christians who point out the truth of God's infallible word.
Thirdly, it is a fulfilment of Biblical prophecy. In 2nd Peter chapter 3, verses 3-4, we are told that in the last days people would be living according to their own lusts and would have a mocking attitude to God and His word. This is being fulfilled in front of our own eyes and is further proof that the Bible is true.
What should our response be to these matters?
Firstly, we should pray for homosexuals and their supporters. The Bible teaches that they are in sin, but instead of having personal animosity towards them we should pray that God would be pleased to open their eyes and save their souls.
Secondly, we should be consistent in teaching the truths of God's word despite the persecution that this is likely to bring.
In conclusion let us meditate on the following verse: "Be ye steadfast, unmoveable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, forasmuch as you know, that your labour is not in vain, in the Lord". 1st Cor 15 v 58.
The so-called Deputy Prime Minister, Clegg, gave a speech to "celebrity" homosexuals last night in support of gay marriage. There is nothing unusual about that, this man has made no secret of his support for these people. However, the original draft speech had him attacking supporters of Biblical marriage as "bigots". When he realised the furore this caused he quickly backtracked. Now he is in the position of having upset both sides - he upset Christians by calling us bigots, and he upset the perverts by withdrawing the "bigot" remark. Truly this man has egg on his face - big time.
What does this sorry episode tell us about Clegg, in particular, and his ilk in general. It tells us several things:
Firstly, those who support homo marriage are deeply spiteful. They pay lip service to tolerance but it is tolerance on their terms. In other words, their message states that you can believe and say what you like as long as it agrees with them.
Secondly, it confirms the reliability of the Bible in it's teachings. In John 3 v 19 we read that people "loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil". Those involved in homosexuality, and their supporters, are in darkness. Not only are they content to wallow in their sin but they lash out at Christians who point out the truth of God's infallible word.
Thirdly, it is a fulfilment of Biblical prophecy. In 2nd Peter chapter 3, verses 3-4, we are told that in the last days people would be living according to their own lusts and would have a mocking attitude to God and His word. This is being fulfilled in front of our own eyes and is further proof that the Bible is true.
What should our response be to these matters?
Firstly, we should pray for homosexuals and their supporters. The Bible teaches that they are in sin, but instead of having personal animosity towards them we should pray that God would be pleased to open their eyes and save their souls.
Secondly, we should be consistent in teaching the truths of God's word despite the persecution that this is likely to bring.

ECHR = Emperor Nero
I understand from the national papers that a number of persecuted Christians have taken their cases before the European Court of Human Rights. Of course I wish them well, and it is right that we should hope and pray for their rights to be protected, but we need to bear in mind several important points.
First of all when it comes to human rights Christians are often kicked to the bottom of the pile; what I mean by this is that everyone else's human rights are respected except those who follow Jesus.
Secondly, Jesus taught that we would be hated because we stand for the the truth of God's infallible word. In John 15 v 19 He said the following: "If you were of the world the world would love it's own. Yet because you are not of the world, but I have chosen you out the world therefore the world hates you." This statement has been fulfilled many times in recent years in this evil country as Christians have been cast aside.
Thirdly, these judges are people who are living in darkness. They do not accept that the Bible is the infallible word of God and so it is very unlikely that they will rule in favour of those who do believe in it.
Fourthly, for Christians to appeal for fairness from the ECHR is akin to asking for fair treatment from Emperor Nero, or one of the other Roman rulers who persecuted believers in the Lord Jesus.
What should our response be to these evil servants of the devil, who cast aside the word of God and persecute His people?
1. We should pray for them that God, in His sovereign mercy will yet be pleased to open their eyes and grant them repentance unto life.
2. We should remain steadfast and not be intimidated by those who oppose the Gospel, but rather, we should continue to sow the seed of God's word and be faithful in living godly lives.
3. We should remember what Paul wrote in 1st Cor. 16 v 9 "A great door and effectual is opened unto me, and there are many adversaries". When we are involved in evangelism God does open doors but the devil is also active.
God is sovereign, He will vindicate His people, He will save the souls of the elect and He will punish the ungodly in eternal torments.
When we all get to eternity - then it is the Christians who "will have the last laugh".

The greatest events at the Olympics
Now that all the euphoria has died down I'm writing an article about the greatest events at the Olympics.
What were they? Perhaps I should list the numerous occasions when competitors ran their legs off on the track and then bawled their eyes out on the podium (but what good is a piece of metal when your soul is not saved?).
No, the greatest events had nothing to do with anything that competitors achieved (and then "forgot" to give God the glory for creating them with athletic ability); rather, the greatest events took place away from the sports arena in the streets of London, where evangelists were sharing the precious Gospel of our Lord and Saviour - Jesus Christ.
Over the two weeks of the Olympics the capital was full of visitors from all over the world, many from countries where open evangelism is forbidden. It was truly a mission field on our doorstep and evangelists took advantage of this by giving out literature in many different languages. As the glorious, life changing Gospel was preached souls were being touched and the devil routed. Only eternity will reveal how many souls were saved during that fortnight.
Moreover, many of the visitors to London were staying in hotels and guest houses where Gideon Bibles were left in a Bible blitz carried out last year - I wonder how many read the Bible and got saved as a result; again, only eternity will reveal this.
Over the last few years in this evil country Christians have been persecuted for standing up for Jesus and the infallible word of God - the Bible. However, no matter how many servants of the devil try to suppress the Gospel it will still be preached and souls will still be saved. God is sovereign, He WILL ensure that His word goes out and every one of his elect will come to faith in Christ. As Jesus said: "All that the Father gives me, will come to me, and the one who comes to me I will by no means cast out" John 6 v 37.

Jerry will be paxoed (unless he repents!)
No politician relishes being interviewed by Jeremy Paxman. More often than not it is a deeply humiliating experience as Paxman shows up the politician for what he (or she) is - hypocritical and two faced. When Paxman successfully grills such a victim the poor creature is said to have been "paxoed".
However, news reports suggest that Paxman, while interviewing Dickie Dawkins, not only showed obvious bias in Dawkins' favour but also made it clear that he believes Bible believers are "stupid people". I wonder if he would have said the same about Muslim belief in the Qu'ran? (Answers on a postcard, please).
Paxman's wickedness in attacking the Bible in general, and Christians in particular, may have won him a few cheap laughs and a nod of approval from Dawkins, but it will earn him torments in Hell for all eternity. Indeed, to coin a phrase, he will be well and truly Paxoed - hoist on his own petard!
People like Paxman and Dawkins think they are so clever (I believe the word is "cool") when they behave in such a boorish manner. No doubt they have a very high opinion of themselves, but what is that worth on the judgement day?
When all of humanity is arrayed before God to give account of their lives the cleverness of people like these will be worth nothing. I am reminded, while writing this article, of a conversation I had yesterday with an atheist who was brazenly showing off to her female companion (yes, I suspect they might well be...ahem, you know, that sort). This lady boasted that she was going to Hell and then denied the existence of such a place. She then proceeded to pour scorn on the very idea of God's existence and she feigned indignant shock when I pointed out that the devil has blinded her. One hopes that she comes to her senses before it is too late - or she, too, will be paxoed on that great and awesome day of the Lord.
Revelation 20 v 15 "Whosoever was not found written in the Book of Life was cast into the lake of fire".

Ian Huntley can be saved
Next week sees the 10th anniversary of the Soham murders. We can all remember the deep sense of shock felt at the senseless killings of two young girls. No doubt when Ian Huntley was convicted and sent to prison many people felt that his sentence was well deserved and that he was "beyond redemption".
However, while his sentence may well have been deserved no-one is "beyond redemption". Even the vilest, most wicked of people can be delivered from the darkness of sin and its bondage to be brought into the light and liberty of the Gospel. As the Bible puts it, they can be turned "from darkness to light and from the power of satan unto God" - Acts 26 v 18.
As a street evangelist I have sometimes been asked if it is possible for murderers and other criminals to be saved and I answer emphatically "YES". There are a number of examples of God's grace in action; a Baptist preacher in the North of England who used to be a terrorist before his conversion in prison, another Baptist preacher in Wales who used to be a drug dealer, again, before being converted in prison.
Then there are the numerous examples of people who have been involved in wartime atrocities who, after being convinced of the error of their ways have turned to Christ and become "Born again" of the Holy Spirit. In this respect I think of the Nazis at Nuremberg (8-9 of them came to know Christ as their personal Saviour while on trial) and the Jap pilate who led the attack on Pearl Harbor - Mitsuo Fuchida, who was converted some years after the war and went on to become an evangelist.
Indeed, people who have been guilty of bad crimes can be more likely candidates for salvation than law abiding citizens who think that they are so good they don't need to be saved. Perhaps this is why prison ministry can be so fruitful as the evangelist doesn't need to convince prisoners that they are sinners in need of salvation, they know they have done wrong and need to change. However, you try convincing law abiding people that they need to repent of their sins and accept Christ and they complain that you have insulted them!
Let us remember the words of Paul in 2nd Corinthians 5 v 17 "...if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away, behold all things have become new".

Where is she now?
News has come through in the national press of the death of Hollie Stevens at the age of 30. Hollie who? I hear you say. Yes, I agree, I've never heard of her before but apparently she appeared in scores of pornographic films and internet web sites. No doubt she made a lot of money through living a life of extreme sinfulness but what good did it do her now she has passed into eternity. Moreover, it has also come to my attention, again through the national press, that Sylvia Kristel is dangerously ill with an advanced form of cancer. This "lady" starred in a number of extremely rude films in the 1970s. I have never seen these films but the reviews made it clear what they contained.
These people, and many more like them, lead lives that are clearly in rebellion against God and His word. They act with a brazenness which is, quite frankly, frightening; but what happens to them when death finally comes? While writing I'm reminded of Oliver Reed, a so-called "Hell raiser" who died while engaging in a bout of drunkeness. Again, what good is their fame and fortune when they are roasting in the flames of an eternal Hell?
In the case of Hollie Stevens, she did have time to prepare for death and one hopes that she repented and turned to Christ. One also hopes the same for Syliva Kristel. However, in Oliver Reed's case he didn't have time to repent as he died while in an act of sin - so we can say definitely that he is in Hell, and will remain so for all eternity without respite.
Of course, even devout Christians can contract serious illness, but at least we know our souls are saved and we have God's peace in the midst of trial - not so the unsaved.
The words of Psalm 37 are apt here viz. "Fret not thyself because of evildoers neither be thou envious against the workers of iniquity. For they shall soon be cut down like grass and wither as the green herb" (verses 1 and 2).
It is very easy to get downcast because of the amount of extreme evil in the world today and, for the present, it seems that the wicked are in the ascendancy but they will be cut down, then it is the eternal flames for them. As the Bible says "The triumphing of the wicked is short". Job 20 v 5

From EP to ET in minutes
We often read car adverts that boast a performance speed so impressive that it can reach 0-60 in, say, 4 seconds. After hearing of yet another drug related death of a young person, at a party last week-end, the thought came to me that he went from Ecstatic Pleasure to Eternal Torments in a matter of minutes.
A terrible blight upon this once great country is the state of our young people. Most of them seem to live for hedonistic pleasure. Their lives consist of a constant round of drunkenness and drug taking at wild parties, and frequent acts of fornication. No doubt while they are "enjoying" themselves they have no thought for God, their souls or their eternal destinies. The godless behaviour of these "people" is extremely brazen; it is almost as if they are deliberately seeking to shake their fists in rebellion against God and His infallible word - the Bible.
However, God is not mocked, Whatever a person sows, he reaps (Galatians 6 v 7). These young people, (and no doubt many middle-aged and elderly people) who seem to think they are able to live ungodly lives with impunity, have a big shock coming to them. When death strikes (often unexpectedly) they are then thrust into eternity. If they haven't repented then they will endure the torments of Hell, one second of which will obliterate all the pleasant memories of sinful behaviour. I well remember preaching in the open-air on Broadstairs sea-front when a man came past boasting that "sin is fun". I do hope that for his sake he repents of such stupidity and wickedness.
Indeed, even as people are engaged in acts of vile sinfulness they may well be ushered into Hell's torments - remember Diana. Even while she was conducting an adulteress affair she was struck down. It is reported that she didn't die instantly but was conscious for a while after the accident - I hope she repented, for her sake.
As Christians we are often under pressure to conform to the wickedness of the day and persecuted for not doing so, but we will have the last laugh. We are heading for Heaven's joys, the unsaved are heading for Hell's fires. We are the ones who will be rejoicing for all eternity in the presence of the one who loved us and gave Himself for us. As the Psalmist says: "I will be satisfied, when I awake, with thy likeness" Psalm 17 v 15

A subtle form of persecution
Ever since the Christan faith came into being the followers of Jesus have been persecuted. Indeed, Jesus warned His followers that we would be hated because we belong to Him (John 15 v 18-21). Moreover, in 2nd Tim 3 v 12 we are told that all those who seek to live godly lives will be persecuted.
This hatred is played out in various forms, the most extreme being physical violence resulting in martyrdom. Over the last 100 years more Christians have been martyred for their faith than in the previous 19 centuries put together.
However, persecution doesn't always occur through physical violence. Sometimes opponents of the Gospel use other tactics eg. dismissal at the workplace for wearing a cross or speaking about Jesus. Another tactic is to target Christian guest houses and insist that homos can book to stay there. Still another way these people work is to use innuendo and false accusation - in this I have suffered persecution. When I open my blog I frequently find comments from people accusing me of being full of hate. This very morning I read a comment from one Barry Duke, the editor of the "Freethinker", in which he accuses me of being a homosexual. He also makes this assertion on the comments page of his blog knowing that I don't have the right of reply. This shows that, as well as being opponents of the Gospel, Mr Duke and his ilk are cowards. They fire off vitriol and spite at those who dare to speak up for the truths of God's infallible word, and then scurry off into a corner - no doubt sniggering to themselves like silly kids in a school playground.
What should be our response to this kind of behaviour?
First of all, we should not be cowed into submission. This kind of attack will only strengthen my resolve to continue writing the truth of God's word and shine the Gospel light in the midst of a wicked and perverse nation.
Secondly, we should resist the temptation to engage in the same tactic of juvenile name-calling as that would be to simply go down to their level.
Thirdly, we should pray for them; we should pray that God would be pleased to open their eyes and implant the gift of faith. Some of the most zealous Christian evangelists today were once fierce opponents of the Gospel and persecutors of Christians.
Let us remember the words of the Saviour in Matthew 5 v 11-12 when He stated that those who suffer insults for His sake will have their reward in Heaven.
Remember, too, the old saying "The one who laughs last, laughs longest".

Nazi tactics from the government
One of the ways in which the Nazis, under propaganda minister - Joseph Goebbels, gave the impression that Germans fully supported them was to stamp out free speech. Of course, such a thing doesn't exist in our freedom loving land - or does it?
Over the last few months there has been an outpouring of opposition to Cameron's plans to re-define marriage by allowing Homos to "marry". The petition set up by the "coalition to save marriage" has passed the half-million mark and is still rising. Tory MPs are getting a sackful of post or e-mails from voters voicing their concerns that a conservative Prime Minister should support such a thing.
Cameron claims that people are being given the chance to give their views to the government in a "consultation" process. However, this so-called consultation is a sham. Many feel that Cameron has already made up his mind and is rigging the consultation process.
The "coalition to save marriage" set up a site that enabled people to put their consultations to the government; but the thousands of submissions passed to the government through that web-site have been blocked. This is a sinister development as it proves that we don't live in a democracy where free speech prevails - we live in a "liberal-fascist" state. In such a country you can freely express your views as long as they agree with the liberal elite. This is a subtle form of persecution but it will not silence those who belong to the Lord and wish to proclaim the truth of God's infallible word.
I would not seek to do any harm to homos but the Bible is crystal clear - homosexuality is a gross and vile perversion, it is an abomination. Those involved in it, and their supporters, need to repent and seek God's mercy by trusting Jesus as their personal Saviour. If they don't do this then they WILL face the flames of an eternal Hell when they die.

The "coalition to save marriage" set up a site that enabled people to put their consultations to the government; but the thousands of submissions passed to the government through that web-site have been blocked. This is a sinister development as it proves that we don't live in a democracy where free speech prevails - we live in a "liberal-fascist" state. In such a country you can freely express your views as long as they agree with the liberal elite. This is a subtle form of persecution but it will not silence those who belong to the Lord and wish to proclaim the truth of God's infallible word.
I would not seek to do any harm to homos but the Bible is crystal clear - homosexuality is a gross and vile perversion, it is an abomination. Those involved in it, and their supporters, need to repent and seek God's mercy by trusting Jesus as their personal Saviour. If they don't do this then they WILL face the flames of an eternal Hell when they die.
Whosoever was not found written in the book of life was cast into the lake of fire. Rev 20 v 15

Jerry Hunt is under God's judgement
The news this morning is dominated by the folly of Jeremy Hunt, the culture secretary. It appears that he has been doing naughties with his e-mail account. I'm not really interested in the finer details of what he has done but I do see a spiritual lesson here.
A short while ago a Christian radio station was attempting to put out an advert defending the Christian faith. Due to the climate of persecution against Christians that exists in this country, at present, this was opposed by Hunt on the grounds that the advert was "political". As a result of this evil man's intervention the case was won by opponents of the Gospel. However, God is not mocked. Hunt is now is trouble; or, to put it another way - the man is toast. (If he doesn't repent he will be toast in another way when he dies!)
The lesson of this whole episode is clear - if you come against God and His people then He will answer you. In the case of Saul of Tarsus God's answer was to convert him. However, in many other cases God's answer is to judge by taking revenge upon the wicked. We see this in many ways in the annals of history.
The Bible says, in Psalm 2 "Why do the heathen rage, and the people imagine a vain thing. The kings of the earth set themselves, and the rulers take counsel together against the Lord and against His annointed saying, Let us break their bands asunder, and cast away their cords from us" This is a clear reference to people rebelling against God but what is His answer? In verse 4 we read "He that sitteth in the heavens shall laugh: the Lord will have them in derision".
When people oppose the Lord and His people they think they will get away with it - but God will have the last laugh, and so will His people.
Jeremy Hunt may yet come to repent of his wickedness in opposing God, I hope so for his sake but, for the time being at least. he has been brought down by his own evil and vile intentions. As the Bible says "It is a fearful thing to fall into the hands of the living God" Hebrews 10 v 31

£1,000 - the wages of sin?
No doubt many will remember the ridiculous court ruling last month that councils were not allowed to hold prayers. The govt. fast tracked a law through the House over-ruling this decision and councils can continue to pray (as they have done for many years).
The person responsible for taking this matter to court was one Clive Bone a former councillor in Bideford, Devon. This atheist (fool) objected to his "human rights " being breached when the council began meetings with prayer and, backed by the equally perverse National Secular Society, took his case to the courts and won his "victory".
Despite the matter now having been closed, by the govt.'s reversal of the legal declaration, it seems that militant secularists are still intent on playing silly games over the issue. This was highlighted by their decision to give £1,000 to Mr Bone as a "reward" for the evil perpetrated by him. He was photographed with a prominent atheist (fool) after the award was announced looking very pleased with himself.
I wonder how pleased he will be when he is in Hellfire? What price will £1,000 be when he is in indescribable torments, knowing that there will be no respite for all eternity? No doubt he would be glad to give back that £1,000 many times over for just one glass of cold water!
However, the good news of the Gospel is that even Mr Bone can receive God's mercy - if only he will come to his senses. If he truly repents of his wickedness and accepts Jesus as his personal Saviour then he will avoid the flames of an eternal Hell and enjoy the blessings of an eternal Heaven.
Sadly, though, very few atheists have the good sense to repent and turn to Christ. It seems that as they get older they become even more hardened to the Gospel. Just like clay left out in the sun becomes progressively harder, so these fools seem to become increasingly obnoxious the more they are exposed to Gospel truths.
The Bible says: "The fool hath said in his heart 'there is no God' ". (Psalm 14 v 1) - an apt description of Mr Bone and his ilk.

The double standards of the liberal elite
As western societies continue their downgrade into all manner of filth and perversity the one statement that we hear political leaders make time and again goes like this: "we believe in freedom, the freedom to live as you please and the freedom to express yourselves as you please".
To the inhabitants of such countries living, as we do, in the shadow of democracy (so-called) this sounds right and fitting. After all, if we value freedom we should allow people to live as they please and express their thoughts and views. This means that whatever your lifestyle and beliefs you must have the right of "free expression". However, the liberal elite have failed to tell us what they really mean; what they really mean is this - you are free to live as you please and express your views providing you are not a Christian.
In the last few years there have been numerous examples of Christians being persecuted because they will not conform to the diktats of the liberal elite. We have read of those who have been hauled before the courts because they will not allow their homes to be used for the purpose of homosexual perversion, we have read of those who have been harassed by the police and even arrested for expressing the truth regarding this filth. We have also read many news articles about Christians who have lost their jobs because they wish to display their faith by wearing the cross (even though adherents of other religions are left alone).
Others have been vilified by the media because they have spoken the truth - the latest example of this being the persecution of Kirk Cameron. Speaking on the Piers Morgan chat show on CNN he declared the truth concerning homosexuality - stating that it is against nature. A veritable hornet's nest has been stirred up and he is being treated like a pariah. (Of course, it is wrong to do physical harm to sodomites or incite others to, but the truth of God's infallible word is clear - it is an abomination).
Should we be surprised at this? Given the double standards evident in western "civilisation", no we should not be surprised. Indeed, Jesus Himself promised that His followers would face persecution. In John 15 v 18-19 He said: "If the world hate you, you know that it hated me before it hated you. If you were of the world the world would love his own: but because you are not of the world but I have chosen you out of the world, therefore the world hates you". Moreover, in John 7 v 7 when Jesus was speaking to his brothers (His natural brothers, not His disciples) He said "The world cannot hate you, but me it hates because I testify of it that the works thereof are evil". Just as Jesus was hated for speaking the truth so will we be; providing we speak the truth and don't hide our light under a basket.
What then should be our response to this outbreak of persecution? Firstly we should pray for courage and strength, secondly we should be bold in speaking/writing the truth and thirdly we should pray for our persecutors that God would be pleased to open their eyes and save their souls.
At present there appears to be an unstoppable flood, indeed an avalanche, of vile wickedness and perversion on every hand. Christians are accused of being obsessed by homosexuality but this is not the case - the obsession is on the part of those who promote this filth, true Christians are simply responding Biblically by opposing it. However, God's day will come - He will bring these perverts and their supporters to account and, if they do not repent before they die, they WILL face the horrors of eternal damnation.

Victory for free speech
The news has come through of a magnificent victory for free speech for which we should give thanks to the Lord.
Street preacher Michael Overd was arrested by the police last year after he upset two sodomites by pointing out what the Bible teaches. Of course, when the sodomites complained to the plods they took their side (they always do) and nicked Michael. He was charged under the infamous Public Order Act and stood trial this week. However, in a stunning victory for free speech, and a blow to pervert rights campaigners, the courts threw out the case against him.
Only a short while ago it was almost deemed illegal to tell homos that they were sinful and a number of preachers were harassed or even arrested for speaking the truth. However, true warriors of the cross continued to stand for Jesus and His word despite the probable consequences. I am reminded of Stephen Green who got nicked in Cardiff after giving out leaflets about the issue but the case was dropped; then there was the persecution of Dale McAlpine in Workington who was also nicked and charged after upsetting a sodomite plastic copper (PCSO) by telling him it was sinful to do gay stuff. I salute these soldiers of the cross - they are not chocolate soldiers but true champions who "dared to be a Daniel" and stood firm when others (even "Christians") may have cautioned against being too direct and pointed in their preaching.
It should be stated that one should not threaten homos with violence or incite hatred against them; moreover, the Christian Gospel is a positive Gospel because it has the power to change people's lives. Even those steeped in the sin of homosexuality can be transformed by the Lord - as the Bible says "If anyone be in Christ, he is a new creature, old things have passed away, behold all things have become new" 2nd Corinthians 5 v 17.
As this country becomes even darker spiritually we need to stand firm and declare the truth of the Bible and not water it down for the sake of expediency.
Michael Overd joins the ranks of those who know what it is to be persecuted for Jesus and we should give thanks to the Lord for giving strength to him during this stressful time. Let us also give thanks to the Lord for delivering this great victory and re-double our efforts to spread the Gospel - whatever the consequences.

The persecution of Tom Wilson
As this crooked and perverse nation (Phil. 2 v 15) becomes even more perverse and wicked so the persecution of Christians will become more intense. Incidents are happening now that even a few years ago would have been unthinkable.
One of the latest examples of such harassment is the case of Tom Wilson, a councillor from Nuneaton. In 2009 he was asked to judge a pumpkin contest for Halloween. As a Christian he rightly declined and pointed out the sinful nature of this evil celebration. A witch hunt committee set up to harass him has (surprise, surprise) censured him and told him to apologise. If someone told me to apologise for speaking the truth I would simply repeat the remarks. I would not issue any form of apology or regret for telling people the truth of God's Holy and infallible Word.
I have no doubt that if Tom was an adherent of any other religion then there would not have been a problem. However, this country is now virulently anti-Christian and anti-Bible so when we speak/write the truth we will be persecuted. (The number of spiteful comments people try to put on my blog is proof of this).
What then should we do? One option is to quietly practice our faith and hope no-one troubles us. Such action (or should I say inaction) amounts to cowardice and is at odds with the teaching of God's word that we should not be ashamed of Jesus. In order to be consistent Christians we need to stand up for the truth and be willing to be persecuted for righteousness sake. Indeed, the Apostle Paul said that all those who seek to live godly lives will be persecuted (2nd Tim 3 v 12).
As we bear the reproach of Christ let us remember that our reward is great in Heaven; the more the devil's servants persecute us the greater is our eternal reward.
Hebrews 13 v 13 says: "Let us go forth unto Him without the camp, bearing His reproach"
